Bad breath, otherwise known as halitosis, can
be very embarrassing & sometimes the sufferer can be completely
unaware that their breath smells. There are many things that can
cause it & it could be your doing someone a favour by telling
them:
- Decaying particles of food between the teeth
- A coated tongue
- Unclean dentures or under a bridge
- Tooth decay & gum disease
- Colds, sinusitis, tonsillitis & their accompanying
symptoms should also be recognised as a cause of bad breath.
- Diabetes is also often picked up through bad
breath, as it emits a sweet acetone smell
- Consumption of alcohol & other foods such
as garlic or onions, also causes bad breath because the waste
products of these are excreted from through the lungs.
Bad breath is sometimes a sign of something wrong
internally, so it is wise to see your GP if the cause can not be
identified.
Bad breath suffers should keep their teeth &
gums, as well as all surfaces of their mouth clean. Floss to remove
decaying food particles & try to avoid pungent drinks &
food.
