Mouth cancer can affect all parts of the mouth
and appears in different forms. In its early stages mouth cancer
itself can be painless perhaps a small lump or a non healing ulcer.
The dentist checks for the early warning signs
in your mouth or on your tongue using a light touch with their fingers.
Mouth cancer can affect anyone, but smoking &
heavy drinking can increase the risk of getting it. (Latest statistics
found up to 90 % of mouth cancer was found in smokers & heavy
drinkers) So if you need another reason to give up smoking, you
could add this to your list
Mouth cancer detected in the early stages has
a good chance of being cured.
At Wollaton Dental Care we incorporate an oral
cancer check as part of your six monthly consultation. If you have
any questions our dentists would be happy to answer them.
We encourage patients with full dentures to come
& have their mouths checked every year.
