around the teeth.

hygienist or dental health eucator will advise you on the best method
of brushing. Visiting the hygienist regularly will also help
Severe gum disease can lead to the loss of
teeth, where bone & fibres supporting the teeth are damaged.
The practice is able to provide a treatment
called Elyzol. This is an antibiotic gel which is inserted between
the tooth & gum. This helps fight infection & promotes the
healing of the gums.
Elyzol is prescribed to patients with chronic gum disease (periodontal
disease). The gel releases over a few days a week later a second
application is needed. No further treatment is required for 6 months,
with the right care & attention, possibly longer. However we
do like to review the mouth after 3 months to make sure everything
is going well.
Advise the dentist of any allergies, medication
you are taking or if you are pregnant.
Before your Elyzol appointment you will need to visit our hygienist
for the removal of built up plague & calculus (tartar).
An Elyzol appointment usually lasts between 20-30
minutes depending on the number of teeth involved.
Elyzol is gently placed in the dental pockets
around the teeth with a special applicator.
A week later you will need to return for the second
course of Elyzol.
Your dentist will monitor your periodontal condition
& decide whether further treatment is needed.
After each appointment you must not eat or drink
for 2 hours to allow the treatment time to work.
The cost of Elyzol pays for it self many times, by helping you keep
your teeth.
